Le Bateau canadien pour Gaza dépose une requête pour le retour du Tahrir
Le 11 juin 2012, le cabinet d’avocats à Toronto de Jackman Nazami et associés a fait enregistrer une requête par courrier auprès des autorités israéliennes de la part du comité organisateur du Bateau canadien pour Gaza, réclamant le retour de notre navire le Tahrir et de son chargement, qui furent capturés de façon illégale le 4 novembre 2011 dans les eaux internationales (vous pouvez voir la lettre ici). Une assistante au ministre israélien de la défense a accusé réception de notre lettre le 12 juin, mais le gouvernement d’Israël n’a pas encore répondu au contenu de notre requête. Nos partenaires australiens, belges et danois qui ont aidé avec l’achat du Tahrir envisagent de prendre des mesures appropriées dans leurs pays respectifs.
En janvier dernier, le gouvernement canadien a été clair sur le fait que le Ministère des affaires étrangères et du commerce international ne nous aiderait pas à récupérer le Tahrir et son chargement, affirmant qu’ils considéraient ceci comme « une affaire privée ». De nombreux Canadiens et d’autres sont en désaccord avec cette position : plus de 600 individus et groupes ont signé notre Déclaration et notre Appel exigeant que le gouvernement du Canada agisse pour faciliter le retour de notre bateau et de son contenu, et pour faire pression sur Israël pour mettre fin au blocus illégal et inhumain de Gaza. Nous vous invitons à faire la même chose, et à solliciter le soutien d’organisations pour cette Déclaration et cet Appel.

Canadian Boat to Gaza files for return of Tahrir
On June 11, 2012, the Toronto law firm of Jackman Nazami and associates filed a letter with Israeli authorities on behalf of the Canadian Boat to Gaza steering committee, requesting the return of our vessel Tahrir and its cargo, illegally seized on November 4, 2011 in international waters (you can see the letter here). An assistant to the Israeli minister of defense acknowledged receipt of our letter on June 12, but the government of Israel has not yet replied to the substance of our claim. Our Australian, Belgian and Danish partners who helped purchase the Tahrir are considering appropriate action in their respective countries.
Last January, the Canadian government made it clear that the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade would not be helping us recover the Tahrir and its cargo, stating that they consider it a “private matter”. Many Canadians and others disagree: more than 600 individuals and groups have signed our Declaration and Call demanding action from the Canadian government to help secure the return of our ship with its contents, and to press Israel to end the illegal and inhuman blockade of Gaza. We invite you to do the same, and to seek the support of organizations for this Declaration and Call.

Canadians abducted by Israel to address coast to coast audiences
Upcoming speaking tour beginning February 15 to address Canada’s role in the blockade of Gaza and give their firsthand account of the capture at sea of the Tahrir.

Canadian Government Abandons Human Rights At Sea: Release the Canadian Boat to Gaza
November 4th, last year, the Canadian ship Tahrir and its cargo of medical supplies, along with everyone onboard, were forcibly taken by the Israeli navy while peacefully sailing in international waters towards the blockaded* Gaza Strip.
The Canadian government expressed no concern to the government of Israel over this serious international incident involving Canadians. Despite multiple requests, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs under Minister John Baird is refusing to ask Israel to release the Tahrir and its cargo of desperately-needed medical aid, saying that this is a purely private matter. Canadians expect more from their government.
The Tahrir was bought with Canadian funds collected from people and organizations from coast to coast to coast. Israel has had more than enough time for a thorough inspection and search of the vessel, the ostensible reason used to justify the capture of the Tahrir, and has never found, nor even claimed to find, anything dangerous or prohibited on board. And yet the Harper Tories have once again granted Israel impunity for its reckless actions.

La lutte des pêcheurs de Gaza

Rosa Schiano est une militante italienne à Gaza. Sa mission est de témoigner et documenter les abus de la marine israélienne contre les pêcheurs de la bande de Gaza. La pêche est un mode de vie traditionnel pour les gens qui vivent sur une bande côtière de terre dans la Méditerranée. En raison du blocus israélien ce mode de vie est devenu extrêmement dangereux et de nombreux Palestiniens ont été tués en mer alors qu'ils tentaient d'exercer leur droit fondamental à la survie pour subvenir aux besoins de leurs familles.
Israël ne laisse aucun bateau dépasser une distances de trois miles nautiques de la côte de Gaza, souvent même moins que cela. Dès qu'un bateau de pêche se rapproche de cette limite la marine israélienne commence tirer vers les bateaux de pêche. Même lorsque les pêcheurs sont autorisés à pêcher, cette zone côtière a été surexploitée et seulement de petits poissons sont pris.
Rosa Schiano a vu tout cela. Ce qui suit est son compte-rendu d'un de ses voyages de pêche et la vidéo de cet incident.
The struggle of fishermen of Gaza

Rosa Schiano is an Italian activist in Gaza. Her mission is to witness and document the abuses of the Israeli navy on the fishermen of the Gaza Strip. Fishing has been a traditional way of life for people who live on a coastal strip of land in the Mediterranean. Due to the Israeli blockade this way of life has become extremely dangerous and many Palestinians have been killed at sea while attempting to exert their human right to their livelihood and to provide for their families.
Israel does not let any boat beyond 3 nautical miles from the coast of Gaza, often even less than that. As soon as a fishing boat gets close to that limit the Israeli navy starts shooting towards the fishing boats. Even when fishermen are allowed to fish, that limited coastal area has been overfished and only small fish are caught.
Rosa Schiano has seen all of that. The following is her account of one her fishing trips and the video from that event.
